Easter Flowers

Easter Flowers

This weekend we will miss the display of beautiful flowers that usually fill our sanctuary at Easter! In lieu of this, Union Chapel is gratefully accepting donations to purchase an array of bulbs. Our plan is to plant them in the church yard to ensure a beautiful spring garden next year!

If you would like to donate to this garden, please make out a check to Fishers Island Union Chapel with “Easter Bulbs” in the memo line. Our address is Box 192, Fishers Island, NY 06390. Thank you! We pray the community enjoys this outdoor garden for years to come as a sign of resilience.

Easter Services with Union Chapel

Friends,

I write in Christ’s love to let you know that as we continue to stay home and stay safe that we can still be united in Spirit, and as people of God be praying for the many needs right now. I believe that Easter will have a deeper meaning for all of us. To this end, I invite you to not forego Holy Week, but spend it in a contemplative way, with these offerings to help you on your journey.

April 9, Maundy Thursday: as I mentioned on Sunday, at the Last Supper Jesus humbly washed the disciples’ feet, a task reserved for the lowliest servant in the household. For those who wish to enter into the solemnity of following Christ’s example, please consider this week washing the feet of someone in your home, and let them reciprocate. If that is not possible, take time this week to do a lowly chore for a neighbor, of course while keeping a safe distance. Bless the person as you serve them.

April 10, Good Friday: Let us come together for this important observance on Good Friday from 11 – 11:30 am to discuss “Why do they call it Good Friday?” We will include as well some informal liturgy, John’s trumpet music and prayers. A link to this Zoom meeting will be sent later in the week.

Easter Sunday: Union Chapel will be offering you two excellent options to view on line — one originating on Fishers Island, the other from our UCC denomination. Watch for more information and links will also be sent closer to the time.

You each remain in my prayers for good health, strengthened faith as we walk the walk this week, and true joy and hope at Easter.  See you soon!

~ Candy

PS: Please note we are taking precautions as has recently been advised to secure our zoom gatherings. If you need help figuring out zoom, contact us before the event for more explicit instructions. Coffee with Candy will again take place Tuesday and Thursday this week at 8:00 am. All are welcome! You do not need a zoom account to join us.
